The test date for the Cognitive Abilities Test to be administered to students who are recommended for the Franklin Piece School’s Highly Capable/Gifted program will be March 24. Students who test in March are applying for the 2010-2011 gifted program which will begin in September 2010. Information packets will be mailed the beginning of March.
Parents, guardians or staff may recommend that a child be tested to determine eligibility for the program. A student may also recommend himself or herself for the testing. If you feel your student shows potential for the gifted program and should be tested, and have not received an information packet from the district by March 5, contact Judy Siesseger at 253-298-3062. Please note that before a student can be tested, the parent or guardian will be asked to complete a Permission to Test form. The deadline for submitting this form is March 17, 2010 at 4:00p.m. Registration forms will not be accepted after the March 17 deadline. No exceptions.
Again this year, testing will take place during the school day at your child’s school.
The Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT) is used to measure a student’s ability to discover and use relations either with words, numbers or symbols to solve problems and to show flexibility in reasoning. The test takes approximately 2.5 hours and covers three areas: verbal, quantitative and non-verbal reasoning.
Please be aware that students who live within the district boundaries will receive first consideration for this program.
Please contact Judy Siesseger at 253-298-3062 with any questions or for additional information.
