On March 13th, the lady Patriots faced off against the lady Cardinals in
the annual Princess Bowl, a PowderPuff football game. Both pep bands
were in full uniform, and a number of male athletes donned cheerleading
outfits to cheer for their respective teams.
After a well-played game by both sides, Franklin Pierce took the win. The final score was 14-8.
While this is a fun annual tradition that brings out a big crowd and
lots of smiles, it is also a fundraising event. All proceeds from game
entries, concessions, and apparel go to support the community's Daffodil
Parade float entry. This year, attendance topped 1,000 people and the
net income (after all expenses) was just over $4,000.
Shannon Phillips has been the Princess Bowl's Committee Chair for the
past five years. "It is fun to bring our community together to raise
funds for our Daffodil Float entry each year. The competitiveness adds
an extra element, which has turned out to be good. The most gratifying
feeling that I have had throughout the past 5 years was to hear the
players from both teams making plans with each other to have dinner
together after the game," Phillips said.
Phillips is always quick to mention that she can't pull the event off
without dozens of other volunteers. This year, several people are to be
commended for their participation and volunteerism including, but not
limited to: Pam Rainwater, Maiya Heath, Steve Sager, Steve Holt, Ryan
Phillips, Josh Leubke, Stephanee Disney, Michelle Greco, Rob Sheridan,
Carolyn Treleven, Jen Bruce, Heidi Sheridan, Trudy Rader, Cindy Bahbah,
Kendal Rainwater, Scott Mowery, WHS ROTC, Office staff at both FPHS and
WHS, Nick Aloisio, Justin Luckman, Ralph Mix, Devin House, Tyler Shari,
Alan Rainwater, Jesse Rainwater, Willie Patterson, Jeff Scott, Kelly
Miles, referees, and many others.
There are still sweatshirts, T-shirts, and window stickers for sale. Contact Shannon Phillips at firstname.lastname@example.org for more information on how to purchase one or more of these items.
