FPS Appoints New Board Member

FPS Board Alex DavisOn Tuesday, January 8, The Franklin Pierce Schools Board of Directors voted unanimously to appoint Mr. Alex Davis as Director of District 1 until the next election in November 2019. This position was vacated by Melanie Morgan, following her recent election to serve as a representative of the Washington State 29th Legislative District. The board received inquiries and applications over the past several weeks and met with candidates at the January 8 board work session.

Alex and his wife Tralayne, are parents of three children, two who are currently enrolled in Franklin Pierce Schools. He serves as the Executive Pastor of Eastside Assembly of Believers in Tacoma, directs the Kings in Training mentoring program, and co-leads the James Matthews Commission emergency placement facility. Mr. Davis has been involved in the City of Tacoma’s MLK Day event, efforts to reduce gun violence, and engaging youth in the arts.

Mr. Davis is most excited about enhancing existing efforts in Franklin Pierce Schools. During the interview process, he noted his approach of asking hard questions, celebrating successes and coming alongside of others in areas of growth and concern. He is committed to advancing the district’s commitment to equity by linking schools, teachers, students and families with the broader community, noting the importance of being a supportive presence while ensuring accountability.

Franklin Pierce Schools leaders are excited by the experience and perspective that Mr. Davis will bring to the position. “Mr. Davis has a deep and sincere interest in enhancing our community, and is excited to add his voice and experience to the important and ever-evolving work of Franklin Pierce Schools”, shared FPS Board of Directors President, Cole Roberts. Superintendent Lance Goodpaster also noted his excitement to work with Mr. Davis because of his “long standing commitment to our community and his passion for equity and positive outcomes for all students”.

Alex Davis will take the oath of office at the Tuesday, January 15 school board meeting and begin his service immediately. Mr. Davis joins a dedicated group of Franklin Pierce Schools Board of Directors members who selflessly give their time and energy in support of high-quality public schooling for our youth.
