Allen Culp Teacher of the Week

Allen Culp, science teacher at Washington High School, was awarded the WSECU Teacher of the Week at the Seattle Mariners game against the New York Yankees on Sunday, September 9. Each week, WSECU acknowledges one teacher in western Washington that “changes lives and benefits the community”, awarding them with a $500 check and public recognition at the Mariners game.

Mr. Culp’s student nominator thanked him for his role as a teacher, mentor and coach, “He inspires students to push themselves…and helped me to boost my confidence”.  The student went on to share that Allen was critical to his success when his father became ill last January. He notes that Mr. Culp kept a close eye on him, making sure that he stayed active in school and worked to nurture a caring team of counselors and teachers that would not allow him to fall behind. When the student’s father passed away in July, Mr. Culp continued to check in regularly, attended his father’s memorial service, and encouraged the student to make healthy decisions to care for himself during a trying time.

Congratulations to Mr. Culp for being recognized for his contributions among the students of Washington High School. Our district is fortunate to have educators that go out of their way to care for the whole child through learning, mentorship and coaching.
