Unified Special Olympics Basketball play strongly at Districts

Unified BaketballAmong several other teams from throughout Southwest Washington, Franklin Pierce Schools had two Unified Special Olympics Basketball teams compete at Districts.

While neither team qualified for the state tournament, our Division 3 Team earned the Gold Medal – first place in their division.

The Gold Medal Champs (pictured) are:
FPHS’s Rowan Davis, Shaun Arnot, and Ryan Wise, all of whom were Unified Partners this season; Ford’s Tre Croom, Shay Cooper, and Michael Menges; and, Keithley’s Alex Smith.

Our division two team competed and placed 6th overall in the District Tournament. The last game against Kentridge HS was exciting. Brandon Ross sunk a 3 point shot the last minute of the 4th quarter sending the team into a 3 minute overtime. Each team scored a basket in the first overtime so the team was sent into double overtime, with the first team to score to take the game. In the end, a Special Olympics athlete from the Kentridge team scored the winning shot, for a final score of 27-29.

Congratulations to: FPHS’s Madeline Ross (Unified Partner), Brandon Ross, Tyler Kolodzik, Terri Swanson, Alex Swanson, Brandon Hordyk; and, WHS’s Alexis Dixon (Unified Partner).

The season will end with a Pack the Gym Night at Bonney Lake High School on Wednesday, February 25th. Game time is 6:30.
